Invisalign is a system of clear, custom-made plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into a new position over the course of treatment. Each set of aligners is worn for one to two weeks before moving on to the next, and across the full set, your teeth move incrementally from where they are now to where they need to be.

If you’ve found yourself self-conscious about smiling in photos, or you’ve quietly thought about straightening your teeth for years without doing anything about it, you’re in good company. Invisalign has become the most requested orthodontic treatment among adults in Hale and Altrincham, and there’s a reason for that. It’s discreet, removable, and far better suited to a busy professional life than the metal braces most of us remember from secondary school.
This guide is for anyone who’s curious about Invisalign but hasn’t yet spoken to a dentist about it. We’ll walk through how it works, what the treatment journey looks like at Re-Ignite Dental, what it costs, and the practical realities you should know before committing.
Invisalign is a system of clear, custom-made plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into a new position over the course of treatment. Each set of aligners is worn for one to two weeks before moving on to the next, and across the full set, your teeth move incrementally from where they are now to where they need to be.
The aligners are made from a smooth, medical-grade plastic that’s practically invisible when worn. They sit snugly over your teeth, hold them in the desired position, and apply gentle pressure to encourage movement. Each pair of aligners is slightly different from the last, which is what creates the progression.
Crucially, Invisalign is removable. You take the aligners out when you eat, drink anything other than water, brush your teeth, and for special occasions if you choose. The rest of the time, ideally 22 hours a day, you wear them.
Re-Ignite Dental is currently an Invisalign Gold provider and is closing in on Platinum status, which reflects the volume of cases we plan and complete. But popularity alone isn’t a good reason to choose treatment. The actual reasons patients give us tend to fall into a few patterns.
The first is discretion. Most people can’t tell when you’re wearing the aligners, which matters if your job involves a lot of client meetings, video calls or public-facing work. The second is removability. You can take them out for an important lunch, a wedding, or a date night without disrupting treatment.
The third is the digital planning. With our iTero Lumina scanner, you can see a preview of your finished smile at your first consultation. That alone removes a huge amount of uncertainty from the decision.
The journey is structured to be as transparent as possible from start to finish.
It begins with a complimentary consultation with Nicole, our treatment coordinator. This is where you share what you’d like to change, ask any questions, and learn about whether Invisalign is suitable for your particular case. There’s no commitment at this stage and no pressure to book further.
If Invisalign looks like a good fit, the next stage is a more detailed consultation with Dr Imran Nisar. He’ll examine your teeth, take an iTero Lumina scan, and create a smile simulation on the same day. You’ll see your starting point and your projected end result side by side on screen.
From there, the digital data is sent to Invisalign for the ClinCheck stage, where your full treatment plan is mapped out in fine detail. This usually arrives within two weeks. We work hard to keep this stage fast because the gap between scan and start is where motivation tends to fade. Our typical target is to have you in aligners within four weeks of your initial consultation.
Once your aligners arrive, we fit small attachments to certain teeth to help the aligners grip and move them more effectively. These are tooth-coloured and barely noticeable. From here, treatment is largely something you do yourself: wear the aligners, change to the next set on schedule, and come in every four to six weeks for a check-up.
Invisalign handles most orthodontic cases well. Mild to moderate crowding, gaps, mild overbites, underbites and crossbites are all within scope. So is general alignment improvement before cosmetic work like composite bonding or veneers.
Complex cases sometimes still need traditional fixed appliances or, very rarely, surgical intervention. Severe skeletal discrepancies, very large gaps, or significant bite issues may not be the right fit for clear aligners alone. We’ll be honest with you about this at the consultation. If Invisalign isn’t suitable, we’ll explain why and discuss what is.
We currently offer three Invisalign options, designed to match different case complexities:
Every package at Re-Ignite Dental includes three retention essentials worth £1,350 in total: three sets of Vivera retainers to keep your teeth in their new position, professional whitening to brighten your smile after alignment, and fixed retainers to provide long-term stability. We include these because retention is what protects the result, and we don’t think it should be a paid add-on.
Refinement appointments are also included: two refinements with Invisalign GO, three with GO Plus, and one with GO Express. Refinements are small touch-up trays at the end of treatment to fine-tune the result.
If you’d rather spread the cost, 0% finance through Tabeo starts from £49 a month for Invisalign treatment. Our online finance calculator gives you instant monthly figures for any package.
Treatment length depends on the package and how much movement is needed.
Invisalign GO Express typically takes four to six months. Invisalign GO usually takes six to nine months. Invisalign GO Plus generally runs nine to fifteen months. These are typical ranges; some patients finish faster, some take a little longer.
The most important factor is wear time. Invisalign aligners need to be in your mouth for at least 22 hours a day to work properly. The discipline of putting them back in after every meal is what makes treatment finish on schedule. The patients who hit treatment timelines reliably are the ones who treat the aligners like a habit rather than a chore.
For the first few days of wearing your first set of aligners, your speech may feel slightly affected. Most patients describe it as a mild lisp that fades within a few days as your tongue adjusts. By week two, almost no patient still notices it.
Eating is a slight adjustment. You take the aligners out, eat normally, brush or rinse, and put them back in. This becomes routine within a week or two. For social situations, you can leave them out for an important dinner or event, although too many missed hours will slow treatment down.
Drinking water is fine with the aligners in. Tea, coffee, wine and anything else should ideally be enjoyed without them, partly to avoid staining and partly to avoid trapping warm liquid against your teeth for hours.
Retention is the most underrated part of orthodontic treatment. Teeth, left to their own devices, will gradually shift back over time. Retainers prevent that.
At Re-Ignite Dental, your Invisalign package includes three sets of Vivera clear retainers, which look similar to your aligners and are worn at night. We also fit fixed retainers behind the front teeth as a permanent anchor against relapse. The combination of both is what protects your investment for the long term.
Most patients also choose to do the included whitening treatment in the final months of Invisalign. Because the trays double as whitening trays, the timing works neatly.
